'Cause You Gotta Have Heart and Music
This past year I have gotten back into playing music. I've practiced more on the instruments in the house and actually joined a community orchestra with my cello. My belly has started to pooch out a little bit and at rehearsal the other night, I noticed I could feel the music from my cello echo through my body. I've always felt a little of the vibrations just from the nature of how you hold the cello when you play it, but it's never been so close to my abdomen before. It was a very cool, but strange, experience. It got me thinking about how sound affects not only my body, but the growing body within me. Mom loaned me a music therapy book a couple years ago that was so interesting, all about how sound affects the body and I have been thinking about what I learned. This kid is going to get one heck of a prenatal experience. There is a lot of sound and music in my life in general that it will be exposed to, but now there will be a whole new layer to my playing. In the next few weeks the ears and brain will be developed enough to start hearing sound through the womb. Andy and I will have to make sure we break out the live music. Now that I think about it, many of the instruments we have are held in the lap or near the abdomen. This should be fun! Do you think Guitar Hero will count? ;)
