Let's Kick It!
The baby definitely thinks kickin' it is a good idea. And punching it. And rolling it. Sometimes I think the Rockettes are holding rehearsal in my lower abdomen. Although this morning was more like kung fu training. I would feel alternating kicks and punches on each side. Andy has even been able to feel some of the stronger kicks, which makes me very happy. It's been really odd feeling the baby to begin with, and now it's becoming even more real. Very cool, though. The baby really likes Gershwin. We rehearsed Rhapsody in Blue last week and it moved more than it ever has before. It tickles a little when it really gets going. I was trying not to giggle throughout rehearsal.
Everything healthwise seems to be going well. I didn't gain much weight throughout the first 20 weeks. I gained what my doctor recommended for me, but didn't go over. I did all of a sudden expand in the belly region. I really look pregnant now. I'm trying to keep making good and healthy food choices although it's getting harder. I've never deprived myself and I'm never hungry (I eat ALL the time) I just ask myself "do I really NEED a cookie or do I just want a cookie?". If I need a cookie I have one. If I just want one, I wait a little while and then have an apple. I'm starting to notice even more food cravings/particularities. For protein I'm all about the red meat and seafood. Chicken and pork are dead to me. Tofu and beans and stuff are still good. Baby also looooves the dairy. I think we've gone through more milk in the past 2 weeks than we have in past months. And cheese, and yogurt. And fruit actually. Throughout the entire pregnancy, fruit has been a constant craving. I have to get a blood glucose test in a couple of weeks to see if I have gestational diabetes (this is a test they give everyone). I'm a little worried about it because of the potential effects on the baby, but not too worried. If I do have it, I'll pretty much be doing what I've been doing, just have to be even more aware of what I eat. Before I got pregnant Andy and I had adjusted our diets to take into account the glycemic index of foods to help regulate blood sugar and generally eat healthier so it shouldn't be too bad if I have to go back to that type of focus. I haven't really had any big spikes or dips that I've noticed so hopefully all is well.
We had the big screening ultrasound and got to see the baby just before Christmas. It was really cool and the pictures from it are posted on the website. We were referred to a specialist for the ultrasound and he was great. Everything looked healthy and good, but just to be on the safe side, we have a fetal echocardiogram (basically a baby heart ultrasound) tomorrow. This will let the doctor have a look at the heart even more developed. It will be neat to see it again. Our due date hasn't shifted so we should be meeting this tiny dancer first week in May give or take. It feels so close and so far away all at the same time. I'm really getting excited!
