She's Here!
Introducing Yvaine Lillian Roach Wentzell!

She's been with us a month now and has our lives turned upside down in a wonderful way. This is a picture I took this morning. She was hanging out with her Daddy who was spinning her mobile and had her musical toy (we've dubbed her Hermione Hippo) playing. She was just grinning away. It was the first thing I woke up to and was a wonderful way to start the day.
It was quite an experience getting her here. She was born Saturday, May 9, 2009. On Friday morning I started early labor (the not so hard part). Later in the morning, once I had regular contractions, we went to the hospital. They sent me home because even though I was in labor, I wasn't far enough along. That was frustrating but we got to go home, have lunch, and start the harder part at home in a comfortable place. My mom had come into town on Thursday so she was with us the whole time. I am so thankful for her. Once I was having hard contractions we went back to the hospital- around 7pm I think. They admitted me and the long night began. Labor was difficult but I had the best support team ever, my Andy and my mom. I was able to get all the way through labor without drugs. Mom would coach me in lamaze and Andy would keep me calm. I am so proud of him. Labor was long and hard and he was a wonderful partner to have. I never could have done it without him.
Once I got to the pushing point (sometime early the next morning), the baby was not progressing. After a while the doctor brought up the possibility of needing a c-section for the safety of the baby. She supported me in trying a few other things first which I did, but they didn't work. After discussing the situation we decided that a c-section would be safest for the baby as she was still not coming out, when by this point she should have been. The surgery went smoothly and we have a wonderful baby! She was delivered at 5:53am on Saturday. It wound up being a very good thing to have a c-section. She wasn't progressing because her head was huge! It was too big to come out normally- 13.7 cms. To give perspective, most babies are delivered at around 10cms. She had also gotten the cord wrapped around her neck, which wasn't a problem in the womb, but delivery could have been dangerous. It has been a frustrating recovery for me because I have been so limited in what I can do. However Andy and my mom were so supportive and helped push me to get better.
Yvaine is growing big and fat. She's such a cute chubby baby. I know it's been a while since we updated but I'm going to make up for it. I won't be able to always post long entries, but I'm going to try to do a "Daily Yvie" entry. I'll post a picture and a blurb about what she's been up to and post more in depth entries as I can.
